Beyond Borders Art Exhibition – Aug 25th, 2021

It’s an honor to be supporting the Consulate General of India and Arth Art International in presenting Beyond Borders: A Retrospective Art Exhibition honoring the late artist Bharat Dalal and his life’s work, The Fossilized Passions of Da Vinci which will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence Day. This event will be hosted at The Consulate of General India in New York City on August 25, 2021 from 6pm to 9pm. Thank you to Karmic Daaru for bar sponsorship!

Please click here to RSVP by August 20, 2021. For more information on the exhibition please visit Bharat Dalal’s website.

Bharat Dalal was an exemplary painter of Indian origin and one of those unique individuals that coupled being scientifically minded with a strong philosophical outlook. During his lifetime he felt a powerful, yet unexplained connection with the “universal genius” of Leonardo da Vinci. While living in Los Angeles during his late twenties, Dalal began creating a series of six large-scale artworks inspired by Da Vinci called, “The Fossilized Passions of da Vinci”. The collection took him over five years to complete and pieces range in size from 81×48 inches to 81×180 inches. One of the most intriguing features of the works is the techniques he employed to create them. The massive canvases were hung horizontally in the studio using a system of pulleys designed by the artist. Dalal would then use contact paper and other materials to skillfully mark out the areas meant for paint application. Using standard house paints, he would use the pulley system to move the paint around on the canvases, a process he would repeat over and over again until he achieved the marbling effect he desired. The process he developed for manipulating the massive canvases used the force of gravity to define the flow of the paint, forming intriguing swirls and allowing the paint to naturally adopt the pattern.

Before his death in 2018, Dalal described “The Fossilized Passions of Da Vinci” to be about those, “emotions, expressions, and experiences of Leonardo as he was in transition during his pursuit of solving the Universal Equation. The paintings are based on the life of Leonardo da Vinci, not as an homage, but due to visions so persistently haunting.”

FAURSCHOU Foundation NYC Opening – Dec 2019

We are honored to be supporting, in conjunction with Artory, the Faurschou Foundation Brooklyn opening. The Foundation already includes permanent exhibition spaces in Copenhagen and Beijing, and a biannual pop-up space in Venice.

The Foundation will inaugurate Faurschou New York with The Red Bean Grows in the South, a group exhibition centered on concepts of dreams and longing, featuring major large-scale and experiential works. Many of the works are from the Foundation’s collection, and are by a diverse array of international artists, including Ai Weiwei, Georg Baselitz, Louise Bourgeois, Cecily Brown, Cai Guo-Qiang, Tracey Emin, Omer Fast, Anselm Kiefer, Edward and Nancy Reddin Kienholz, Christian Lemmerz, Paul McCarthy, Richard Mosse, Yoko Ono, Robert Rauschenberg, Alison Saar, Danh Vo, and Yu Hong. Works in the exhibition span a variety of media and explore conceptual themes such as violence, war, politics, idealism, and escapism, as well as hope, dreams, desire, lust, and longing. The idea of longing, in particular, is manifest throughout the exhibition in different ways, be it a sense of longing for someone (as in a loved one) or for something (as in a better future). The works resonate strongly as individual pieces, but also take on new meaning when placed in dialogue with one another.

The newly renovated 12,000 square-foot industrial warehouse in Greenpoint, will give the Foundation a new platform to showcase large-scale installations and experiential works from Faurschou’s collection, thematic group shows centered on the human condition and experience, and solo presentations of acclaimed artists from across the globe.

In addition to temporary exhibitions, some large-scale works from the Foundation’s collection will regularly be on view, allowing Faurschou to make more of the works in its collection publicly accessible. As with all of Faurschou Foundation’s permanent exhibition spaces, Faurschou New York will be free and open to the public.

Faurschou New York
148 Green Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn
New York, NY 11222

Public opening hours starting December 16th, 2019 from 12 PM – 7 PM, Wednesday through Sunday.

KidSuper Studios Presents Assembly Line – NYFW 2019

New York Fashion Week is known to be a hotbed for notoriously exclusive runway events, showcases, and parties. KidSuper’s ASSEMBLY LINE, a communal exhibition, and RECYCLING: A RUNWAY SHOW, both focus on demonstrating the importance of sustainable fashion and circular design practices, while promoting a Fashion Week event for and by the community. Presented in conjunction with Jagermeister and Wallplay, we’re excited to be supporting all three of these über-original brands behind the bar for their Fashion Week show and afterparty.

Designed to highlight the creatives behind fashion making, the installation attempts to pull back the industry mask, both by breaking down the barriers to “in-crowd” culture and eco-friendly practice.

Functioning similarly to a garment factory, the exhibition raises awareness around sustainability, especially in relationship to climate change activism. And although KidSuper recently hosted a critically acclaimed 2019 Paris fashion show event, as well as his first sustainable fashion exhibition, THE FACTORY, during Art Basel Miami in 2018, the artist/designer believes it’s imperative to bring this community-driven participatory exhibition to his hometown in Brooklyn, who have always supported him.

Reserve times for sessions @ factory.kidsuper.com.
