CABORCA’s ¡Grita! Fiesta @ the Clemente – Sept 23rd, 2023

Join us for a night of music, dance, and artistic expression at the Clemente Center LES in celebration of CABORCA’s ¡Grita!

CLEMENTE CENTER – FLAMBOYÁN THEATER
107 Suffolk Street New York, NY 10002

Doors Open: 8:00 PM
Party Playlist by DJ Payola: Enjoy a curated playlist by DJ Payola from RadioRed Puerto Rico.
Las Mariquitas Live Salsa Performance: Be mesmerized by a live experimental salsa musical performance by members of Las Mariquitas salsa band collective.
DJ Mira Mira’s Set: Keep the energy high with DJ Mira Mira’s live set, ensuring a night of fantastic music and dancing as resistance and perseverance.

On September 23, 1868 in Lares, a group of brave souls rose up to secure independence from the Spanish colonizers and social justice for all Puerto Ricans. On September 23, 2023 on the Lower East Side, we commemorate their bravery and the legacy of resistance that has endured on the archipelago and in the diaspora in the 155 years since.

Grito de Lares represented a dream among Puerto Ricans not only for independence from Spain, but for democratic reforms and the abolition of slavery. It is clear that the legacy of resistance remains strong in Puerto Rico, even after years of austerity imposed by PROMESA and the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
